Arun Goel Becomes New Election Commissioner

New Delhi: Arun Goel took charge as an Election Commissioner on Monday morning. He is a former bureaucrat of the Punjab cadre.

As the third member of the poll panel, he has joined Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey.

This 1985-batch IAS officer took voluntary retirement on November 18. He was to retire on December 31, 2022. On November 19, he was appointed as an Election Commissioner.

A post of Election Commissioner was vacant following the retirement of Sushil Chandra as CEC in May this year.

Mr Goel has served as the heavy industries secretary of the Central government.
