ASI Gopal Das had Bipolar Disorder: Doctor who treated Him

Jharsuguda: The doctor who was treating Gopal Das, the ASI who shot Odisha Health Minister Naba Das, claimed that he had bipolar disorder, a mental illness.

Earlier, ASI Gopal Das’s wife revealed that her husband, who shot the State Health Minister Naba Das, was suffering from mental ailments.

She said, “My husband was suffering from mental ailments and high BP. He was on medications. I do not know whether he had enmity with Minister Naba Das.”

Das, who sustained critical injuries after an ASI of police opened fire at him, has been airlifted from the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Odisha’s Health and Family Welfare minister Naba Kishore Das was shot at by an assistant sub-inspector of police in Jharsuguda district on Sunday. The ASI has been taken into custody for interrogation and investigation.

The man who fired at Das reportedly was in police uniform and he has been identified as ASI Gopal Das. As a policeman in uniform, Gopal Das could reach the Odisha Health Minister’s proximity to fire four to five rounds at his chest.

“Assistant Sub-inspector of Police (ASI) Gopal Das opened fire at the minister. The minister is injured and rushed to hospital,” Brajrajnagar SDPO Gupteswar Bhoi.
