Asian Games 2023: Mukherjee Sisters Script History by Clinching Bronze in TT

New Delhi: India’s Table Tennis phenomenal duo, Ahyika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee scripted history at AsianGames 2023 by clinching the Bronze Medal in the women’s doubles event.

They broke the barrier in style, getting India’s first-ever medal in the TT doubles event in the Asian Games history.

The Indian pair lost 4-3 against Cha Suyong and Pak Sugyong of DPR Korea in a captivating women’s doubles table tennis semi-final at the Asian Games 2023.

India won the first, third and sixth games, pushing DPR Korea all the way for a spot in the gold medal match. While Cha and Pak claimed the second, fourth and fifth games, a dominant 11-2 victory in the seventh took them to the final.

Known as the spin queens, the eighth-seeded Mukherjees defeated reigning world champions Chen Meng and Wang Yidi in the quarter-final on Saturday. They finished the Hangzhou campaign with a bronze medal, India’s third medal in Asian Games history.
