Rourkela: A rogue elephant that had created havoc in the Bonai area in the Sundargarh district for the last three months was successfully tranquilized and captured for getting fitted with a radio collar.
This around 15 years old male elephant was damaging houses and standing crops creating panic among villagers in the Bonai region for last three months.
On Tuesday, a team of forest officials led by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Lali Patra tok an operation to tranquilize and capture the rogue elephant. The team included forest officials, veterinarians, and elephant experts.
The elephant was tracked down and tranquilized at around midnight. A radio collar was fitted to its neck before it was released back into the forest.
The forest officials have assured the villagers that the elephant’s movements will be closely monitored through the radio collar to prevent future human-animal conflicts.
