In Hinduism, the eighth day of Navratri is considered very important. On this day, Goddess Mahagauri, the perfect form of Goddess Durga, is worshipped according to the rituals. Let us tell you that the Ashtami date of Navratri is also known as Durgashtami.

Form of Mata Mahagauri

In the eighth Siddha form of Maa Durga, the complexion of Mata Mahagauri is as white as milk. Along with this, she also wears clothes of the same colour. Mata Mahagauri comes riding a buffalo and listens to the prayers of her devotees. The goddess has four arms; in each, she holds Abhaya Mudra, Trishul, Damru, and Vara Mudra.

Mata Mahagauri Puja Vidhi

On the Ashtami of the Navratri festival, take bath, meditate in Brahmamuhurta and clean the place of worship. After this moisten the place of worship with Gangajal. After doing this, take a vow of fasting and offer vermilion, kumkum, a pair of cloves, cardamom, and red chunri to the mother with reverence. After doing this, do aarti of Mata Mahagauri and Maa Durga duly. Before the aarti, you must recite Durga Chalisa and Durga Saptashati.

According to the scriptures, there is also a law to worship nine girls on this day. On this day, nine girls of age 10 or less and one batuk are invited to the house and then offer puri-sabzi or kheer-puri with reverence. The goddess is pleased by doing this.

वराभीतिकरां त्रिशूल डमरूधरां महागौरी भजेम्।।
