CM Naveen Patnaik Expresses Grief on Demise of Odia Scientist & Padmashri Awardee Prafulla Kumar Jena

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep condolences at the passing away of eminent Odia scientist and Padma Shri awardee Prafulla Kumar Jena.

In a tweet, CM Naveen Patnaik wrote, “I am saddened to learn of the demise of Padmashri Awardee Prafulla Kumar Jena. He will always be remembered for his contributions to science and research, especially metallurgy. May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to the bereaved family.”

Prafulla Kumar Jena served as a senior scientist at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Head of the Department of Metallurgy at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Director, of the Regional Research Laboratory (RRL), Bhubaneswar, Director General, at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi and First Distinguished Professor of the Tata Chair in Metallurgical Engineering at IIT, Kharagpur.

He was also the Founder Chairman of the Institute of Advance Technology & Environmental Studies (IATES), Bhubaneswar.

Prafulla Kumar Jena was conferred with the National Metallurgist award in 1969, Padma Shri in 1977 and the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries award in 1982.
