CT & GST Officer Falls in Vigilance Net for Bribery in Paradeep

Paradeep: An officer of the Commercial Tax Goods & Services Tax Department was caught by the State Vigilance on charges of bribery.

The accused was identified as Chittaranjan Mohanty. He was caught while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from a complainant in order to release his seized documents and furnish a closure report of the CT & GST case instituted against him.

The entire bribe money was recovered from the accused, said a senior official of Odisha Vigilance.

Simultaneous house searches are going on at three locations to trace the assets of the accused disproportionate to his known sources of income, added the official.

“Cuttack Vigilance P.S case No.4 dt.30.03.2023 U/s 7 P.C Amendment Act, 2018 has been registered in this regard. The investigation is in progress,” said the senior official.
