Cyclone ‘Mocha’ Likely to Form Over Bay of Bengal After May 8: IMD

Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic formation named ‘Mocha’ may form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal after May 8, predicted IMD. This cyclonic formation is expected to move northwards towards the central Bay of Bengal.

According to IMD, cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around May 6. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region around May 7. It is likely to concentrate into a depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal on May 8.

Details of its path and intensification will be provided after the formation of low-pressure area. The system is under watch and is being monitored regularly, IMD authorities said.

It will be named cyclone ‘Mocha’ if it intensifies into a cyclonic storm.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik chaired a high-level meeting in view of the possible formation of cyclone ‘Mocha’ over the Bay of Bengal. He instructed all concerned officials and departments to be in prepared to tackle any kind of eventuality.
