Cyclone ‘Sitrang’ Likely To Hit Odisha Coast On Oct 24: IMD

Bhubaneswar: According to an advisory issued by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar of the IMD, the cyclonic circulation that was present yesterday over the north Andaman Sea and the surrounding area was still persistent. It reached mid-tropospheric levels at 8:30 AM today.

Within the following 24 hours, a low-pressure region is predicted to develop over the southeast and adjacent East-central Bay of Bengal under its influence.

It is projected to travel west-northwestward and concentrate into a depression over the central Bay of Bengal by the morning of 22 October 2022. Over the next 48 hours, it is extremely likely to intensify and transform into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal.

Squally wind with surface wind speeds reaching 45 to 55 kmph with gusts to 65 kmph will be present over deep sea areas of the west-central adjoining North Bay of Bengal starting on October 22 and along & off the Odisha coast starting on October 23 under the influence of the aforementioned anticipated system.

Fishermen have been warned not to enter into the deep sea in the west central region that borders the North Bay of Bengal starting on October 22 and along and off the coast of Odisha starting on October 23 till further notice.

All deep sea fishermen have been urged to return to shore by October 22.
