Exchange of Fire Between Maoists & Security Personnel in Nabarangpur Dist; Contraceptives Seized from Deserted Camp

Nabarangpur: Security personnel and Maoists exchanged fires in Nabarangpur district on Wednesday. The exchange of fire continued for around half an hour after which Maoists preferred to escape from the spot. A huge cache of Maoist materials including IEDs and contraceptives were seized from the deserted camp of naxals. The seizure of contraceptives hinted at the sexual exploitation of females in the Maoist organization.

It may be noted that following the Maoist attack in the Dantewada district of bordering Chhattisgarh, in which 11 persons including 10 jawans lost their lives, a high alert has been sounded in Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur districts of Odisha.

Nabarangpur SP S Sushree said, “Two SOG teams of Odisha police launched an ant-Maoist operation on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border. An exchange of fire occurred between the police personnel and 20-25 armed Maoists during the operation which lasted for around half an hour.”

“No one was hurt in the gun battle. However, a huge cache of Maoist articles including IEDs was seized during the operation,” she added.

She said that the Maoists were exploiting the women. It was evident after the seizure of a large amount of contraceptives from the Maoist camp, she said.
