Female Maoist, BSF Jawan Injured in Chhattisgarh Encounter

Raipur: A female Maoist was seriously injured during an exchange of fire between the security personnel and naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Friday night. , police said on Saturday.

A jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) sustained minor injuries in the encounter that occurred in the forests near Urpanjhur village.

The injured Maoist was identified as Fagni, a member of RKB division of Maoists. She is the wife of Vinod, Madanwada Local Organisation Squad (LOS) commander of Maoists. She was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Personnel of the BSF’s 178th battalion and Kanker police had launched the joint anti-Maoist operation from Mendra camp under Pratappur police station limits on Friday night.

At around 9 pm, an exchange of fire broke out between them and Maoists, he said.

The security personnel apprehended an injured woman Naxalite from the spot. One single-shot gun was also recovered from there.

The injured BSF constable Vikas Singh was provided preliminary treatment at the camp. His condition is said to be out of danger.
