Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson Resigns as MP

Former Prime Minister of Britain, Boris Johnson on Friday resigned as an MP because of the allegation that he had misled the Parliament. He resigned after receiving the results of an investigation by lawmakers into misleading statements he made to Parliament about “partygate,” which relates to a series of rule-breaking government parties during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Along with the resignation Johnson came up with a lengthy statement in which he alleged that his opponents were trying to drive him out. But he hinted that his political career might not be over yet.

“It is very sad to be leaving Parliament — at least for now,” he said.

Johnson, whose career has seen a series of scandals and comebacks, led the Conservatives to a landslide victory in 2019 but was forced out by his own party less than three years later in 2021.
