Joshimath: Uttarakhand’s holy town Joshimath has experienced fresh incidents of land subsidence during the last two days. This has panicked the residents of Joshimath.
According to sources, land caved in at two places and subsided at three places in Sunil ward of Joshimath on Saturday night. According to locals, such incidents coincided with the recent monsoon rains.
In January this year, Joshimath experienced severe land subsidence. Over 650 houses in Joshimath had developed cracks in January 2023. Around 4000 families became homeless because of this land subsidence in January.
From March to June there were no incidents of land subsidence in Joshimath, which was a respite for the locals.
But the problem of land subsidence has again returned back to Joshimath adding to the worries of locals.
After finding fresh craters at two places and sinking of land at three places, it is felt that similar incidents may continue to occur in Joshimath in the future.
