Girls Throw Dupattas in air to welcome author Geeta Ilangovan in TN School

Chennai: It was the most heartwarming welcome that any feminist author will wish for. Girl students of a government residential school in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi welcomed famous writer Geeta Ilangovan by throwing their dupattas in the air.

These girl students are impressed by author Geetha Ilangovan’s articles published under the title ‘Her Stories’. These articles were translated into Tamil and given the name ‘Dupatta Podung Thozhi’ (Wear your dupatta friend).

Geetha in her articles wrote about the way women are enslaved and told what should be their behavior.

Geetha was overjoyed when the girls of the school in Kalvarayan hills she visited threw away their dupattas from several floors expressing their joy at meeting the author.

A video of hundreds of schoolgirls throwing their dupattas off the floor has been widely shared on social media. Tamil writers Geetha Ilangovan and Nivetha Lewis are seen in the video. There is a constant nagging that women should wear a dupatta when they go out. But a girl should decide what she wants to do with her life, said the tribal students of the school.
