IMD Issues Orange Warning For Thunderstorm & Rain in Odisha’s 9 Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday sounded an ‘orange warning’ for heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind with speeds reaching up to 40-50kmph and hailstorms are likely to occur in several parts of the state in the next 24 hours.

The orange warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind with speeds reaching up to 40-50kmph and hailstorms has been issued for the districts of Keonjhar, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Puri. Heavy rainfall is likely to occur in one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Cuttack, and Jajpur. The warning will remain valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.03.2023 up to 0830 hrs IST of March 19, IMD said.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind with speeds reaching up to 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore. Hailstorm is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, and Kalahandi.

Day-2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.03.2023 up to 0830 hrs IST of 19.03.2023)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind with speeds reaching up to 40-50kmph and hailstorms are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri.

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur in one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Cuttack, and Jajpur.

Day-3 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 19.03.2023 up to 0830 hrs IST of 20.03.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind with speeds reaching up to 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam, and Mayurbhanj.

Day-4 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 20.03.2023 up to 0830 hrs IST of 21.03.2023)

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore.
