Indian National Shot Dead by Australian Police in Sydney

An Indian citizen, who had stabbed a cleaner, was shot dead by the Australian police in Sydney on Tuesday. The deceased had allegedly stabbed the cleaner at a Sydney railway station and also threatened police personnel, reported Australian media.

The deceased Indian was identified as Mohamed Rahmathullah Syed Ahmed (32) from Tamil Nadu by the Indian Consulate in Sydney. He was living in Australia on a bridging visa.

“The incident is extremely disturbing and unfortunate. We have formally taken up the matter with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, New South Wales Office as well as state police authorities,” the Indian Consulate said.

It is alleged that Ahmed allegedly attacked the 28-year-old cleaner at Sydney’s Auburn station. He was stopped by two police officers, who then allegedly attacked them, media reports said.

One of these police officers fired three shots at Ahmed. Two bullets hit Ahmed in the chest. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared dead, the report added.

The injured cleaner was admitted to a local hospital and is now said to be in a stable condition. The assailant and the victim were not known to each other, reports said, quoting the police.
