Indian Startup Chingari to Lay Off 20% of Its Employees

New Delhi: Indian startup Chingari has declared to lay off 20 percent of its workforce as part of organisational restructuring.

The company has decided to provide severance pay worth two months’ salary to the impacted employees. The company will also give three more months of health insurance coverage to the fired employees.

Chingari has also announced to provide additional support to the impacted employee by offering career counseling and job placement.

Chingari, a social entertainment app, was launched on the Google Play Store in November 2018. As of 2022, the app has gained more than 160 million users across over 15 languages. It boasted over 5 million daily active users (DAU) and 40 million monthly active users (MAU).

In May 2023, Chingari’s co-founder, Aditya Kothari, resigned.

Prior to Chingari, Moj’s parent company, Mohalla Tech, fired approximately 115 employees following the closure of its fantasy gaming vertical. Additionally, VerSe Innovation, the parent company of the short video app Moj, laid off 150 people and implemented company-wide pay cuts for employees earning more than Rs 10 lakh per year.
