Internet, SMS Services Suspended in Punjab as Operation Starts to Nab Khalistan Sympathiser Amritpal Singh

Chandigarh: All mobile internet services, SMS services, and dongle services provided on mobile networks have been suspended in Punjab till Sunday (March 19) noon. This drastic measure has been taken for the operation of Punjab Police to arrest self-styled Khalistan preacher and sympathiser, Amritpal Singh. The Punjab government was waiting for the G20 event to finish before taking action against Amritpal Singh, reported NDTV.

Amritpal Singh heads “Waris Punjab De”, a radical organisation established founded by actor Deep Sidhu who died in a road accident in 2022.

All the mobile internet and messaging services have been suspended till 12 noon tomorrow, 19 March, in the interest of public safety, the Punjab government said in a statement on Saturday.

In a statement, the Department of Home Affairs and Justice of Punjab said, “All mobile internet services, all SMS services (except banking & mobile recharge) & all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except the voice call, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab shall be suspended from 18th March (12:00 hours) to 19th March (12:00 hours) in the interest of public safety.”
