Karnataka BJP MLA Climbs on Sri Ram Statue on Ram Navami; Faces Ire of Devotees, Congress

Bengaluru: A Karnataka BJP MLA has landed in controversy for his ‘disrespect’ of Lord Ram during Ram Navami on Thursday. This BJP MLA, Sharanu Salagar represents Basavakalyana constituency in the Bidar district of Karnataka. He was seen stepping on a statue of Lord Ram to garland the idol and also posed for photographs standing on it.

Pictures and videos of him standing of Sri Ram’s idol circulated on social media. Many considered his act as insulting and targeted BJP for it.

Congress posted the video on social media and questioned the BJP on its claim of ‘Hindutva’ and devotion to Lord Ram.

Defending his action, Salagar said his act was unintentional and he did it on the request of party workers. He added that he didn’t intend to place his foot on the statue.

The election for the 224-member Karnataka Legislative Assembly will be held on May 10 with results on May 13.
