Khalistani Leader Amritpal Singh Detained by Punjab Police

Chandigarh: Pro-Khalistani leader and chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’ Amritpal Singh was detained near Jalandhar’s Nakodar on Saturday, reported India Today. The Union Home Ministry is in constant touch with the Punjab government regarding the situation.

Over 50 police vehicles chased the Khalistani leader and his aides after the Punjab Police traced Singh’s latest location near Shahkot. Ten of his aides were detained in Jalandhar and they are being interrogated at an undisclosed location.

Mobile internet and SMS services were restricted in Punjab till Sunday noon for this operation against Amritpal Singh.

The Punjab Police has so far not confirmed whether self-styled Sikh preacher, Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh has been detained or not after the hot chase on Saturday.  But a group of Nihangs took out a protest march in support of the 29-year-old cult leader, who is also known as Bhindranwale 2.0.

Punjab Police launched a high-level operation to chase Amritpal Singh while he was reportedly on his way to Shri Muktsar Sahib. His cavalcade was cordoned off by police in Mehatpur. A heavy police force is involved in the entire operation. According to Hindustan Times, Amritpal Singh switched his vehicle at the spot where his cavalcade was intercepted by the police.
