LPG price hiked by Rs 203: The situation in India remains the same

New Delhi: The retail price of cooking gas in India has increased by 41 percent compared to April 2020. Meanwhile, the standard contract price of LPG has increased three times in the global market. According to the information provided by the government in the Rajya Sabha, the standard Saudi price of LPG for the world market reached $725 per ton on July 2022. This shows a 203 percent increase in LPG prices in the international market.

Meanwhile, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in India has increased by 41.5 percent. Its price has increased from 744 to 1,053 rupees. In written reply to a question, union Petroleum Minister Hardik Puri said that the government has revised the effective domestic price of LPG.

During the epidemic, three cylinders were filled free of cost in the LPG connection given to the poor under the Ujjwal Yojana. He said that the government has announced a subsidy of Rs 200. This subsidy will be given on cylinders in the current financial year. Puri said that the government has spent Rs 3,724 crores in the financial year 2019-20, Rs 9,235 crores in the financial year 2020-21 and Rs 1,569 crores in the financial year 2021-22.
