Man Performs Death Rituals of ‘Living Wife’ in Odisha

Balangir: A man performed death rituals of his wife who is still alive in Kurul village of Odisha’s Bolangir district.

The ritual performer, identified as Akshay Rout performed his wife Sunita’s death rituals. Akshay performed the ritual because Sunita eloped with her lover Bikash Jain.

According to sources, Akshay Rout and Bikash Jain were good friends. Bikash used to visit Akshay’s house and spend time.

Meanwhile, Bikash and Akshay’s wife Sunita reportedly developed romantic feelings for each other. Both of them tried to elope as well but failed.

Bikash’s wife Muskan has filed a complaint with Adarsha police urging them to trace the whereabouts of Bikash. On the other hand, Akshay had applied for divorce.

“We follow certain rules in society. We cannot live in society without following them. A meeting was held in our village after Sunita eloped with her paramour and it was then the villagers advised me to conduct her death rituals,” Akshay said.

“She is dead for me as she left me and our children alone for the sake of her love. Now, I have to live with society and thus I obeyed its orders.  That’s why I performed all death-related rituals for her”, he added.
