Man Severs Wife’s Head Over Farmland Dispute In Gajapati

Gajapati: A man allegedly severed his wife’s head with an axe at Sara village under Kashinagar police limits in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Urmila Karji (30), wife of Chandra Shekhar Karji.

According to reports, the incident took place while the Chandra Sekhar and Urmila had been to their cashew orchard located on the outskirts of the village when a verbal duel ensued between the couple. Irked over the altercation Chandra Shekar attacked his wife with an axe and beheaded her.

On being informed, police personnel from Kashinagar visited the site, seized the body, and sent it for postmortem. The police have started an investigation into the crime and arrested the accused.

Though the exact reason behind the crime is yet to be ascertained, preliminary investigation hinted that a dispute over family matters or farmland might have led to the murder.
