Meta Platforms has decided to come up with a Twitter-rivalling microblogging app called Threads. Meta declared this a few days after Twitter owner Elon Musk announced temporary restrictions on how many posts users can read on the social media site.
Threads may be released on Thursday. It will allow users to retain followers from Meta’s photo-sharing platform Instagram, and keep the same username.
Thread is a direct challenge of Meta to Twitter, which continues to face problems since Musk bought the company for $44 billion in 2022.
Meta’s Instagram already has hundreds of millions of registered users. So, the launch of Threads represents a credible threat to Twitter.
