Monument for Abortion on Anvil in Arkansas of US; Know the Reason

Arkansas in the United States will erect a monument to mark the abortions performed in the state before Roe v Wade was struck down in 2022. This monument to aborted fetuses was approved by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Monday.

This “monument to the unborn” will come up near the state’s Capitol grounds. It will be a privately funded monument. Anti-abortion groups and the Capitol Arts and Grounds Commission will oversee the design of the monument, The Independent reported.

Till the decision of the United State Supreme Court in Roe v Wade, from 1973 until it was overruled in 2022, over 2.5 lakh “elective abortions” were performed in Arkansas.

A law in Arkansas approved in 2019 banned nearly all abortions. This law was implemented in 2022 when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the 1973 Roe decision. In Arkansas, abortions are allowed only to save the life of the mother in a medical emergency.

This monument project has faced opposition from some anti-abortion Republicans who said it was counterproductive and Democrats who said the monument proposal was divisive.
