Mukul Rohatgi refuses to government’s offer

New Delhi: Senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi has refused the central government’s offer to become the country’s attorney general again. Rohatgi resigned as Attorney General in June 2017. Later, KK Venugopal took charge. Now the government wanted to make 67-year-old Rohatgi the Attorney General.

Attorney General KK Venugopal’s extended tenure will end on September 30. He has been handling various cases as the top lawyer of the government for 5 years. As Venugopal’s term ends on the 30th, the government asked Rohatgi to become the AG. He also accepted it. His tenure was to begin on October 1. But now he has refused the proposal of the central government. But the reason behind is unknown by now.

Venugopal, who took over as AG in 2017, ended his tenure for the first time in 2020. At this time, he asked the central government to release the responsibility citing his age. But the government did not agree. Later his tenure was extended for another 2 years.

On the other hand, Mukul Rohatgi is a senior lawyer. He has argued Supreme Court cases in various High Courts of the country. He worked as a public prosecutor in the Gujarat riots case. Also, he recently fought a case for Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan.
