National Girl Child Day: History and Significance

National Girl Child Day is being observed today. This Day is celebrated on the 24th of January every year with the objective to provide support and opportunities to the girls of India.

National Girl Child Day was first initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

The government has taken several steps over the years to improve the conditions of girls. These initiatives include Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana.

It aims towards promoting awareness about the rights of the girl child and to increase awareness of the importance of girl education, health, and nutrition. Gender discrimination is a major problem that girls and women face throughout their life. To eradicate this issue, National Girl Child Day is celebrated.
