OHRC Takes Suo Moto Cognizance of Gobinda Sahu Death Case

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) ordered prison and police authorities for a detailed report of Gobinda Sahu death case. The Commission termed Gobinda Sahu’s demise ‘a custodial death’.

The OHRC took cognizance of the matter suo moto and served notice to the Special Director General of Prisons & DCS and Balangir SP to submit their respective reports within 15 days.

The Commission has asked to place the matter before Division Bench-II on January 10, 2023.

Gobinda Sahu, the prime accused in the much talked about Mamita Meher case has reportedly committed suicide in jail. He was rushed to the Kantabaji Hospital by jail officials this morning where he was declared dead by the doctors.

He was supposed to appear in the JMFC court today.

Gobinda Sahu, the prime accused in the murder case of popular Sunshine Public School teacher Mamita Meher, was lodged in Kantabaji Jail. Gobinda had tried a prison break of the Titilagarh barracks, as a result of which he was to be produced in the JMFC court today for a hearing in the case.
