Orissa High Court Restricts Firecracker Competition During Ravan Podi in Cuttack

Cuttack: Orissa High Court has directed that there will be no firecracker competitions during Ravan Podi event in Cuttack on Dussehra this year.

The High Court gave this directive while hearing an intervening petition filed by Sarbadharma Sadharana Parishad.

The Advocate Committee has suggested the use of only light emitting environment-friendly firecrackers with minimal harmful effect on the environment. The committee has suggested for a balance between culture and environmental pollution.

The arrangements are to be made at the lower Bali Jatra ground. Directions have been issued to Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and district administration for necessary measures for disciplined observation of Ravan Podi.

Similarly, the High Court has allowed use of DJ during visarjan with the sound limit kept within 65 decibels.
