Overhead Water Tank Collapses in Mathura, 2 Women Killed, 11 Injured

Mathura: Two women died and 11 others were injured when an overhead water tank collapsed in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district on Sunday. The victims were buried under the debris of the collapsed tank.

This mishap occurred in Mathura’s crowded Krishna Vihar Colony. Apart from the two deaths and injury of many, the collapse of the overhead water tank also damaged nearby structures. Water entered nearby houses.

Mathura Police, teams of the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were called in for the rescue operation. At least 13 people including five women and a 6-year-old child were rescued from the debris.

The construction of the water tank was completed in 2021 and its collapse in just three years. It was built by the UP Jal Nigam at a cost of Rs 6 crore under the Gangajal Drinking Water Project.
