Puri Market Complex Fire: Panel Formed to Probe Reason

Puri: Following the major fire mishap that came under control after 36 hours, the district administration has formed a committee to be led by the Puri sub-collector to look into the cause of the fire.

Fire Services and ODRAF personnel finally bring the massive fire under control even after 36 hours after it broke out at Laxmi Market Complex in Puri. Over 43 shops at the complex have already been reduced to ashes so far.

The fire spread to the first floor and completely devoured two warehouses on the first floor.

Over 100 people were rescued from the market complex so far. At least three Fire Services personnel were injured during the rescue operation.

“Three people have been injured. They have been admitted to hospital for treatment,” said Gokul Ranjan Das, IIC Town Police Station.

“More than 10 teams are engaged in rescue operations and are underway to douse the blaze,” the IIC added.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained till now. But, it is suspected that short-circuit sparked the fire.
