Rahul Gandhi may contest for the post of Congress President

Bangalore: The country’s oldest political party Congress is all set to elect its full-time president. Even before this, the team has to face many challenges. This is the biggest question for the Congress which leader will be the party chairman? Just before the election, senior leader Ghulam Nabi has already resigned from Azad Party.

On the other hand, Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tiwari, and Kirti Chidambaram are demanding that the voter list be released. Not only that, Congress is questioning who will lead the party. The team is currently going through an uncertain situation. On the contrary, many party leaders are saying that Rahul Gandhi may be ready to contest for the post of President.

Rahul Gandhi is likely to return from his foreign trip on Saturday evening. After this, Congress leaders can try to convince Rahul to contest the election of the national chairman and to handle the demands of the party. Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post of chairman blaming himself for the defeat of the Congress in the May 2019 Lok Sabha elections. After this, Sonia Gandhi is holding the responsibility of the internal president of the party.

According to a source close to Rahul Gandhi, it cannot be said with 100% certainty that Rahul Gandhi will not contest for the post of chairman. Efforts to convince him are ongoing, as this is the only best solution for the party. Everything will depend on how successful the rally in Delhi against the rate hike on Sunday and the subsequent Bharat Jodo Yatra goes.

A senior Congress leader said Rahul Gandhi will take a 150-day journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. If he files nomination papers for the post of party president, he can take one day break for that. The leader said that Rahul will address the rally organized at Ramlila Maidan next Sunday.

Notable Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is currently at the fore in the Congress as an alternative face outside the Gandhi family. However, the efforts of senior leaders like Mallikarjun Khagde and Salman Khurshid will continue till the end to convince Rahul Gandhi.
