Rape Case against Congress MLA of Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: A 38-year-old woman has lodged a case of rape and assault against Umang Singhar, a Congress MLA of Madhya Pradesh (MP).

She lodged this case against the MLA at Naugaon police station in Dhar town of MP on Sunday evening. She alleged that the MLA had deceived and sexually assaulted her. She was allegedly living as a ‘wife’ with the MLA.

The woman has also complained of physical torture, life threat, and abuse. A case was registered against the accused MLA under Sections 294 (obscene act), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (2) (rape), 377 (unnatural offences), 498 (A) (harassment of a woman), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Singhar represents Gandhwani seat of MP and is also a national secretary of the Congress.

Through a video message, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra confirmed that a case had been registered against Singhar as per the complaint filed by his ‘wife’.
