Ludhiana: Mandeep Kaur, aka ‘Daaku Haseena’, was apprehended by the Punjab Police, for a robbery of Rs 8 Crore 49 lakh, that took place in Ludhiana on June 10.
Acting on information that Mandeep Kaur and her husband Jaswinder Singh had plans to flee to Nepal. But before that, they had plans to visit various shrines, including Haridwar, Kedarnath and Hemkunt Sahib, Punjab police came up with a plan to hold a free drink service for pilgrims as it was difficult to identify them both among a huge crowd of devotees who were visiting the Sikh shrine in Uttarakhand.
Meanwhile, the accused couple approached the drink stall. They had their faces covered in order to not get caught but had to uncover their faces to sip the drinks. This is when the police identified them.
Thereafter, the cops chased the couple and caught them to some distance.
They were tracked down through an operation of Ludhiana police named ‘Let’s Cage the Queen Bee’ launched on Friday to nab Mona. Five police teams were deployed to track down this mastermind. Her husband was also arrested along with her.
Six others involved in this robbery were arrested earlier. Two other accused are still absconding.
Punjab police have already recovered Rs 5.75 crore robbed by the miscreants.
A total amount of Rs 8.49 crore was looted from the office of the CMS, a private cash management firm, in Ludhiana in the early hours of June 10.
The accused decamped with the cash at around 1.30 am. The looters escaped from the spot using a cash van, which was recovered by police later near Mullanpur.
