Rs 18 Lakh Cash Seized from Bus in Berhampur during Excise Raid for Ganja

Berhampur: During a raid to unearth ganja, officials of the excise department recovered cash worth Rs 18 lakh from a bus in Odisha’s Berhampur on Thursday. The cash was stuffed in a trolley bag. The man carrying this trolley bag with cash was detained by the excise department for interrogation.

According to sources, officials of the excise department in Berhampur had received a tip-off about marijuana being smuggled in a passenger bus. They stopped the targeted passenger bus near Lanjipalli in Berhampur and started checking up the luggage of passengers.

During the search, they stumbled upon the trolley bag stuffed with Rs 18 lakh cash. The man carrying the cash was identified as Sanjay Sahoo. He claimed that he had got the cash by selling groundnuts.

He is being interrogated to ascertain the real source of the cash in his bag.
