Sensex Climbs 446 Points to Finish at 58,075

The Key domestic share markets today posted gains of more than half a per cent. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange closed above the 58,000 mark while the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange ended above the 17,100 level. Both indices rose amid positive global cues.

The Sensex climbed 446 points, or 0.77 per cent, to finish at 58,075. The Nifty also surged 119 points, or 0.7 per cent, to settle at 17,108.

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index rose 0.66 per cent and the Small Cap index added 0.50 per cent.

In the Sensex Index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of 12 companies fell while 18 rose. Reliance gained 3.1 per cent, followed by Bajaj Finance rose by 2.9 per cent and Titan added 2.2 per cent.

On the other hand, PowerGrid plunged two per cent, Hindustan Unilever declined 1.9 per cent and Tech Mahindra fell 1.2 per cent.

In sectoral indices at BSE, 15 sectors gained while five logged losses. The consumer Durable sector gained 1.6 per cent, the Financial sector rose 1.4 per cent and the Bankex index added 1.3 per cent.

On the other side, the IT sector fell 0.8 per cent followed by FMCG and Reality sectors as both declined 0.6 per cent each.

The overall market breadth was positive as shares of 1,978 companies rose while those of 1,550 companies fell. A total of 119 shares remained unchanged.
