Mumbai: NCP party workers celebrated on Friday, as an 18-member committee formed by Sharad Pawar rejected his resignation. Two days back NCP chief and veteran Maharashtra politician Sharad Pawar declared to step down from the post of the party president.
An 18-member committee was formed by him to name the new national president of the party. The committee of the NCP was expected to decide who would head the NCP next.
On Friday, the NCP spokespersons submitted a resolution to party leader Praful Patel stating that Sharad Pawar should remain its national president. “We can make working presidents but Sharad Pawar should be president,” they said.
“The state, party, and the country need you now. You are the foundation of this party. You are a respected leader in the country. Your influence can be seen across the state,” senior NCP leader Praful Patel said after the meeting.
“We unanimously reject his resignation. The party wants him to continue as President,” he said.
Several leaders of the party met Sharad Pawar and requested him continuously to rethink over his decision as the country and party needs him at this hour.
