Sonu Nigam’s Father’s Ex-Driver Arrested for Stealing Rs 72 Lakh

Mumbai: A former driver of singer Sonu Nigam’s father was arrested for allegedly stealing ₹ 72 lakh from his home in Mumbai. Mumbai Police recovered over Rs 70 lakh from his possession, which they claimed was stolen from Nigam’s residence.

Sonu Nigam’s father Agamkumar Nigam informed that the alleged theft took place between March 19 and March 20.

Agamkumar’s younger daughter Nikita filed the complaint about the theft at the Oshiwara police station in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to the complaint, Agamkumar Nigam had a driver named Rehan for nearly 8 months but removed him recently as his performance was not satisfactory. On Sunday afternoon, he visited Nikita’s home in the Versova area for lunch and returned after some time. In the evening, he called his daughter to inform her that ₹ 40 lakh was missing from a digital locker kept in a wooden cupboard.

The next day, he visited Sonu Nigam’s house for some work. However, when he returned he found out that another  ₹ 32 lakh missing from the locker.

Agamkumar Nigam and Nikita checked the CCTV footage of his society which showed his former driver Rehan going towards his flat with a bag on both days when he was away.

Based on the complaint, the Oshiwara police registered an FIR under Indian Penal Code sections 380, 454 and 457 for theft and trespassing for housebreaking and arrested Rehan. Further investigation is underway.
