Visakhapatnam: A speeding truck hit three elephant calves in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district on Wednesday night. The three elephant calves were killed in this accident, said AP forest officials.
A wild elephant herd was crossing the Chittoor-Palamaneru National Highway, when they were hit by a truck at Jagamarla crossing in Palamaneru Mandal of Chittoor district.
Forest officials rushed to the spot to initiate an investigation.
The truck driver escaped from the spot after causing the elephant deaths. Forest officials allege rash driving by the truck driver caused this mishap.
A case is to be registered against the truck driver under the Wildlife Protection Act.
