Tamil Nadu Firecracker Factory Blast: CM Announces Ex Gratia of Rs 3 Lakh to Nearest Kin of Deceased

Chennai: Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 3 lakhs to the nearest kin of the victims who have lost their lives in the blast at the cracker factory.

He has also announced a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh to the severely injured. Many of the injured have been transferred to the Kilpauk hospital in Chennai for further treatment. The owner of the factory has been arrested in the case.

Eight persons died and at least 14 others were injured in an explosion at a firecracker unit in Tamil Nadu’s Kancheepuram on Wednesday afternoon. Three women were among those who lost their lives in this major accident.

The injured were admitted to the Kancheepuram district hospital. Four units of fire brigade are on the spot to douse the fire and search for any more people trapped in the firecracker manufacturing unit.

The reason for the explosion is not yet ascertained. According to police sources, 25 persons were working in the unit when the explosion occurred on Wednesday afternoon.
