Srinagar: The fierce gun battle continued between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district for the sixth day on Monday.
Meanwhile, a charred body was found near the hideout of the terrorists. It is suspected that the deceased may be one of the terrorists.
The terrorists are hiding in a cave-like structure on top of a hill in the dense Gadul forests in Anantnag’s Kokernarg area, which is providing a tactical advantage to them. The hill is steep with only one narrow path to reach the cave-like terrorists’ hideout.
It is believed that there are 2-3 terrorists, including a LeT commander in this hideout. The terrorists seem to be well prepared as they have enough stock of food and ammunition to last for several days.
The operation started on the intervening night of September 12-13. At least four security personnel, including Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonchak and Kashmir police DSP Humayun Bhat have lost their lives. Another soldier is said to be missing and one more is injured.
