Two Friends Drown in Birupa River in Jajpur Dist; One Body Recovered

Jajpur: Two friends in their twenties drowned while taking bath in the Birupa river in the Jajpur district on Wednesday.

Jyoti Ranjan Padhi (24) of Pattamundai in Kendrapada district had come to his relative’s house at Nanpur in Jajpur district along with his friend Abhijit Patra (22) of Bhubaneswar.

On Wednesday afternoon, both of them went to the nearby Birupa river to take bath. They were swept away by the strong current of the river.

Villagers searched for them and managed to fish out Abhijit, who was found to have died. Jyoti has not been traced. The Fire department personnel had started a search operation to locate Jyoti.
