Two Goods Trains Collide Head-On in UP; 11 Wagons Derailed

Lucknow: Two goods trains had a head-on collision with each other in the early morning of Thursday near Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur railway station. Eleven wagons were derailed by this accident, reported ABP News.

This accident occurred on the Sultanpur-Benaras railway track. The drivers of both trains were severely injured in this mishap. But no casualties were reported. Out of the derailed wagons, some overturned in the head-on collision. Sources said that the engines of both the goods trains have been damaged.

Rail traffic on the Lucknow-Varanasi and Ayodhya-Prayagraj routes was disrupted because of this accident. Railway authorities have reached the spot to clear the track for the resumption of regular rail transport.

As per initial reports, this accident was caused by the wrong signal. Both goods trains were traveling on the same track when the accident occurred. The arrival of two goods trains on the same track near the southern cabin of Sultanpur Junction led to this accident.  An investigation is on to identify the railway personnel because of whose mistake this accident occurred.
