UP Girl Ends Life at Home as Her Boyfriend Jailed For “Kidnapping” Her

Lucknow: A 17-year-old girl committed suicide at her home in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur after her boyfriend was jailed in her kidnapping case.

Her boyfriend was arrested on May 18. She was in love with her 19-year-old neighbour for around two years. Their families were opposed the relationship.

The matter was taken up at the village panchayat but the two families did not reconcile. On May 13, the two escaped from the village.

Following an FIR lodged by the girl’s father alleging that the youth allegedly kidnapped his daughter, the police traced the couple after five days. The boyfriend was arrested on kidnapping charges and was sent to jail for a week under judicial custody.

Finding that her family will never allow her relations with her boyfriend, she locked her up inside her room. She applied sindoor to her forehead before hanging herself with a scarf.

Police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem.
