Veteran BJP Leader Girish Bapat Passes Away After Prolonged Illness

Pune: Veteran BJP Leader and member of Lok Sabha from Pune Girish Bapat passed away after a prolonged illness in Pune today. He was 72.

Bapat started his political career as a councillor and also became a minister in the state cabinet. He was elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2019 general elections as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was instrumental in state politics for more than 30 years.

Even though he was on life support he had participated in a party gathering during the campaign for the byelection of the Kasba peth assembly constituency to boost the morale of the party workers.

Guardian Minister of Pune Chandrakant Patil while condoling the death of Mr Bapat said that the party has lost a senior leader and a stalwart. Leader of Opposition from Maharashtra legislative assembly Ajit Pawar said that Pune district has lost a universal leader in the death of Girish Bapat. Pawar said in his condolence message that he was the face of cultured politics.
