Wedding Gift Explodes; Groom & His Brother Die, 4 Others Injured

Raipur: A home theatre music system received as a wedding gift exploded in a home in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district on Monday killing a newly married man and his elder brother. Four others in this family were also injured in the blast.

The explosion was of such high intensity that it led to the collapse of the walls and roof of the room where the home theatre system was kept.

According to police sources, the deceased groom Hemendra Merawi (22) got married on April 1. On Monday, he along with other family members unwrapped and switched on the home theatre system received as a wedding gift. And all of a sudden there was a huge explosion that killed Hemendra on the spot.

His brother Rajkumar (30) and four others, including a one-and-a-half year boy, were injured. They were admitted to the district hospital in Kawradha. Rajkumar died during treatment.

The exact cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained. Forensic experts are investigating the possible reason behind the blast. The music system was the only equipment that exploded in the room and there were no other inflammable items in the room.
