Woman Drinks Liquor in Gurdwara; Angry Visitor Shoots Her Dead in Patiala

Patiala: Sacrilegious act of a woman allegedly drinking alcohol on the premises of a gurdwara in Patiala led to her murder on Sunday evening. She was shot dead by a visitor to the gurdwara.

According to police sources, the deceased woman, identified as Parminder Kaur (32), was allegedly drinking liquor near the “sarovar” (holy water tank) of Dukhniwarn Sahib gurdwara. Her act was noticed by the ‘sangat’ of the gurdwara as well as Nirmaljit Singh Saini, a regular visitor to the holy shrine.

Members of the sangat decided to take the erring woman to the managers’ office for questioning. While they were taking her away, Nirmaljeet Singh Saini, shot five rounds at the woman with his 32-bore licenced revolver.

The woman was immediately shifted to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead by the doctors. According to police sources, another man was also injured in the incident and was hospitalised. The accused was arrested by police. He is a property dealer with no criminal background.
