YouTube Will Have its 1st Official Shopping Channel in South Korea

To diversify its business and enter new avenues, YouTube has decided to experiment with its own official shopping channel. On June 30, YouTube will inaugurate its first official shopping channel for live commerce in South Korea.

Through the South Korea project, the Alphabet-owned YouTube company plans to become more “shoppable”.

This new YouTube channel will be a live-commerce platform for different brands and companies. It will be in the Korean language. At first, this experimental project would run for 90 days.

YouTube’s live-commerce platform in South Korea plans to livestream shopping content from about 30 brands, reported Korean media. According to Korean media, it is YouTube’s first official shopping channel in any country.

In February 2023, Google’s Chief Business Officer Philipp Schindler said there was “lots of potential in making it easier for people to shop from the creators, brands and content they love”.

South Korea’s live commerce market is projected to grow to 10 trillion won ($7.7 billion) this year from 2.8 trillion won in 2021.
