11-Day Famous Gajalaxmi Puja Kicks Off In Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: As the age-old famous Maa Gajalaxmi Puja kicked off with today’s Kumar Purnima celebrations, Odisha’s Dhenkanal city decked up with lights.

From Sunday onwards, Maa Gajalaxmi is being worshipped at 38 Mandaps in the city.

The history of Laxmi Puja at Dhenkanal is more than 50 years old. The colourful decoration, temporary markets, music & dance programmes, etc. are part of this Puja celebration which continued for 11 days starting from Kumara Purnima.

It now becomes a traditional grand yearly celebration in which people from all religions, castes, and tribes participate in it. At last, a grand combined procession & crackers competition is being organized on the immersion day.

After two years of Covid lockdown, this year puja is being celebrated with grandeur. Lakhs of devotees are expected to congregate in the town every day for darshan, so elaborate arrangements have been made for security, law, and order, SP, Loganayagi Divya V said.

A total of 23 platoons of police force have been deputed to guard the city, while there are 2 additional SPs, 5 DSPs, 17 inspectors, 98 SIs, and ASIs, who will monitor the situation, led by the SP.
