12 Lawyers In Sambalpur Arrested For Vandalising District Judge’s Chamber

Sambalpur: As many as 12 lawyers were arrested for allegedly vandalising the district judge’s chamber during Monday’s protest over the demand for the establishment of an Orissa High Court bench in the district.

Of them, nine lawyers were later sent to jail after the rejection of their bail petitions.

Section 144 of CrPC has been clamped at Kacheri Chhak here to maintain law and order and action will be taken if anyone enters a 200 metres radius of the prohibited area.

Moreover, others involved will be arrested after examining the CCTV footage.

Worth mentioning, various social organisations and the public along with the lawyers have launched a Satyagraha demanding establishment of a High court bench in Sambalpur.

Meanwhile, the Bar Council of India has suspended 29 striking Advocates for a period of 18 months with immediate effect.

The council has further suspended all the members of the Sambalpur District Bar Association till further orders.
